July 16 - Norwalk to Port Jefferson

We slept late (overslept, actually) and waited to see if we would have more visitors early today, but tennis won over miniature golf, and we departed at about 11 in the morning after a walking tour of the yard. (More on the yard another time.)

We took the back route out of the harbor, hoping to see some working oyster dredges, but being Sunday, only saw one small boat heading in. Sails set in a 10-12 Knot breeze, we had a delightful sail to Port Jefferson with calm seas and enough sun to make us believe that the weather reports of late afternoon showers were just a fantasy.

Entering the harbor, we met one of the ferries which make their way up to Bridgeport and back on a regular schedule. The schedule, although I've not seen it printed this way, places a ferry in the entrance channel any time we are either entering or departing the area.

We dropped anchor in the northeastern part of the harbor with an unusually small number of other travelers. Only one large powerboat, playing loud recordings which could only have been made by Howard Stern's super hero, detracted from the scene. This lasted only a short while, and the evening, although not the clearest we've seen, was hard to fault.
